It's early March and the rain is pouring down and has been all week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the clouds clear off before this wedding! Friday comes and it rains all morning. 11am approaches and the rain stops. Jackpot!
I've known this couple for a little while now. Amy assisted us when we adopted a cat some years ago and the family attended one of my family studio events back in the day. So, when I was asked to photograph their wedding I jumped at the opportunity!
Basingstoke Register Office was the ceremony location. It's one of my favourite register offices and not because it's local but because it's where I was married. It has changed somewhat, these days. The architecture remains the same but the interior decor has recently been updated. There are now floral-print panels and light net curtains, with some dark green couches in the waiting room. The staff are still as friendly as ever! Outside there is a ramp and steps which are great for some small group portraits and for the confetti shot as the newlyweds greet their guests. There is also a nice green area under a large tree (perfect if it does rain!) and then the Memorial Park nearby where we did most of the portraits at this wedding.
Amy and Alex had two bridesmaids (dressed in beautiful, dark purple dresses) and two best men. Their best men were their little boys who were fantastically well-behaved and stood well for photographs. Amy looked absolutely stunning in a beautiful white gown with a purple bouquet and flowers in her hair. Alex and the boys looked rather dapper in their suits, too!
I was only booked for the ceremony and portraits today, however I returned to meet with the couple at their home in the late afternoon (after their wedding breakfast at The Red Lion Hotel) to take some photographs with their rescue dogs. I think the phrase is "never work with children and animals" but I just can't help myself! It's far too much fun!
